PILAR DE LA HORADADA is the furthest south of the Alicante province and borders Murcia. The municipality of Pilar de la Horadada is divided into 3 parts and has about 21,000 inhabitants. Then there is the "Fiesta de Santísima Virgen del Pilar" (the Blessed Virgin of Pilar) celebrated for several days. There is a lot of fuss with a parade, concerts, entertainment, and the well-known "flower sacrifice". Both residents and permanent residents participate and there are large areas of serving and food tents etc. Fireworks are also not an unknown way to celebrate in Spain.
